Teen follows mom's footsteps in parade
Darlene Buchanan marched in 1987 when the Aggie Band last made an appearance in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thursday, her daughter Karianne, will march the same route she did 20 years ago. Mother and daughter both play the clarinet and have talked at length about the trip, the seemingly endless parade route and traded tips on how to brave the potential cold Thanksgiving Day. It was real cold the year I went, Darlene Buchanan said. There wasnt any rain. That was good. The 2.5 mile parade route is a fairly direct route starting on 77th Street at Central Park West, turning onto to Broadway at Columbus Circle, down Broadway through Times Square to 34th Street, then to Herald Square, where all bands and stars will perform, before ending on Seventh Avenue.
Just the Shows: Who's Playing Nov. 12 and Who's Not
Broadway will be completely dark Nov. 12, since the eight Broadway productions that are unaffected by the stagehands strike offer no Monday-night performances. The few Broadway shows that do have Monday-night shows as part of their weekly schedules are affected by the strike and therefore dark. (Although it is not a Broadway show, the Marquis Theatre will welcome theatregoers Nov. 12 for The Third Annual Benefit Concert: A Cause For Celebration! The union has agreed to allow the benefit to go on despite the strike.) The eight Broadway shows that are running and will resume performances Tuesday, Nov. 13 follow: Cymbeline at the Vivian Beaumont Theater Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam Theatre Mauritius at the Biltmore Theatre Pygmalion at the American Airlines Theatre The Ritz at Studio 54 The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Circle in the Square Xanadu at the Helen Hayes Theatre Young Frankenstein at the Hilton Theatre Broadway shows that will be dark until further notice: August: Osage County at the Imperial Theatre Avenue Q at the Golden Theatre A Bronx Tale at the Walter Kerr Theatre Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre A Chorus Line at the Schoenfeld Theatre The Color Purple at the Broadway Theatre Curtains at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre Cyrano de Bergerac at the Richard Rodgers Theatre Dr.
