Ringling descendent's accuser to testify

The alleged victim in the child sexual abuse case involving Ringling family descendent Charles A. Clayton-Jones will testify by videotape and in person, the judge in the case ruled Monday.

Clayton-Jones, 41, of Rock Springs appeared with his attorney, Christopher Van Wagner of Madison, for a short hearing in Sauk County Circuit Court on a single count of felony repeated sexual assault of a child. The charges stem from sexual contacts Sheriff's Department investigators say Clayton-Jones had with a 10-year-old boy in the summer of 2006, according to court records.

Sauk County District Attorney Patricia Barrett said she intended to present two videotapes of interviews with the child, one from September 2006 and the other from April 2007.

Van Wagner said he had no reason to object to their use as evidence, but said the child must be subjected to cross-examination, as well.

British TV Sweeps International Emmys

NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore called on television executives, producers and performers to help warn viewers about global warming as he accepted a special honor Monday at the 35th International Emmy Awards.

British TV productions dominated the ceremony, winning seven of the nine categories, with BBC One's "The Street" enjoying a double win for drama series and best actor.

Robert De Niro introduced Gore as this year's recipient of the International Emmy Founders Award for his efforts to promote "our common humanity."

De Niro said Gore has "devoted his life to public service" and continued to do so "after he was elected president in 2000 and voted out of office by the Supreme Court."

"He has used his prominence as a concerned world leader to wield enormous influence," De Niro said.

Buhler details his plans for downtown, calls Becker a 'Xerox Man'

When it comes to plans for downtown, Dave Buhler says the "Blueprint Man" should be called "Xerox Man."

Buhler unveiled the latest of his "to-do" lists Friday, detailing what he promises to accomplish downtown and comparing his record with that of his opponent in the Salt Lake City mayoral race, Ralph Becker.

Buhler contends that Becker's blueprint for downtown is a copy of Downtown Rising, a plan created by the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance to guide Utah's capital city into the future, without offering any specifics or new ideas.

"He ought to be called Xerox Man because he's basically saying he'll implement Downtown Rising," Buhler said.

Buhler said his opponent "has not really done anything to support downtown" during his 11 years in the state House of Representatives.
