A 'Great' time to be a Geezer
This just in: Sept. 4 is the next "Gallo's Geezers at Gallagher's" luncheon, and fellow members, we are in for a treat. On that date a champion will be our guest speaker. He is Tom Brokaw, the heavyweight champion of the airwaves. As you know, Tom is the author of "The Greatest Generation," a book that was a gift to WWII veterans, their families and this current generation. This is a book America needed, if only to tell us some vital truths about the war years. Tom is the perfect guest speaker for us and you should not miss this date. In fact, Geezers, mark it down - Sept. 4, Gallagher's at 12 noon. Y'all come. More later. This geezer thing is catching on, folks. I'm also pleased to announce some hockey stars have signed up for "Gallo's Geezers," the most dignified club of young men - 65 and over - whose creed is: "Get your duffs off that worn-out couch and make yourselves useful by doing something noble for family, community and country." Also, we have Lowell Klatt from East Falmouth, Mass., a salty but delightful ol' geezer, who is the only man alive who can claim he knocked a Japanese Zero out of the sky with a Browning Automatic Rifle in Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec.
That's entertainment: On the pop culture board, this spring has ...
There's been behavior that would make any parent squirm (think Lindsay and Paris), a series of movie sequels that have been off the charts at the box office (hello, Spidey, Shrek and Pirates), a Broadway show that's been "King" in Appleton, a new "Idol" champ who is the daughter of a former football player and a new "Dancing" champ who follows in the footsteps of a former football player. What's not to like? With that said, here are 15 ways we've been entertained for better or worse. Headline: Lindsay Lohan redefines Girls Gone Wild. The plot: The underage starlet drinks and then drinks and then drinks some more during an out-of-control Memorial Day weekend. She crashes a car, is photographed in a drunken stupor, is linked to cocaine and finishes the weekend in a rehab center.
